Jesse Bannister

Jesse is a highly respected and unique musician, who is 

incredibly skilled and adaptable within a diverse array of genres of musical composition, performance, production and education. 

 

These skills have been developed through years of extensive musical training and performance in Western Art Music, Jazz, Indian Classical music, Afro music, Latin music, Composition and Contemporary acoustic and electro-acoustic music.

 

Taking these lived experiences, Jesse has innovated 

scholarship and teaching within Higher Education and has an evidenced track record of inspiring a new generation of music students through curriculum development and cultural exchange over a sustained period.

Cross Cultural Composer

Jesse's unique creative approach has enabled a  legacy of  cross cultural commissions, where as a leader in the contemporary Indian music scene he has developed a  blend of Indian Classical music, Jazz, Western Classical and Afro music.

 

He has appeared with the world's leading ensembles and musicians including; The Hallé Orchestra, Grammy winning Bickram Ghosh, Mercury Prize winning  Talvin Singh and Mobo winning Zoe Rahman.

 

Collaborated with dance, painting, storytelling, rugby, cricket and BMX professionals and Olympic ice skaters and swimmers.

 

From an Indian family and a sound healing tradition he has ,since 2015,  focussed on music for Well-being: Culminating in a five year PhD research project called 'In Sympathy' : Music for CymaPhone.

Indian Music On Western Instruments : IMOWI 

Jesse's work as performer and teacher is framed within his expertise of Indian Classical Music on Western Instruments.

This musical adaptation has a long creative history through the blend of music from the Global South and Western Art Music.

To enrich this work, Jesse offers a unique way of  sharing that encompasses a contemporary worldview of music making.
